An attempt to create a negative space
I took a photo of some flowers which were white and I thought it would be kind of cool if I colored everything but the flowers. But since I can color inside the lines and, I thought it would be cool to use white wax to outline the flowers and watercolor everything around them. It did not turn out as I had expected but I am learning sometimes as you are creating the medium determines the flow.
What you missed
Since it is now officially summer, I switched the art at the coffee house to a summer theme. So now you have to go to Patch Coffee and see the new display. The pics below are what you missed. Hope they bring a smile to your face.
Patch Coffee
I have been displaying my work at Patch Coffee at 29100 Portola Parkway, Lake Forest, CA 92630. I am switching out the pieces and displaying new work starting tomorrow June 21, 2018. If you are close by and you want a good cup of coffee with an artistic environment, please stop by and check out my work. You will like the atmosphere of a local coffee house rather than that commercially sterile environment you are conditioned too. Hope you come and hope you let them know you loved my work.
Language in Art
Do you ever wonder why people don’t quite understand what you are saying? They are close but some where in the communication there is a break in the understanding of what you are trying to express to them. You wonder are they hard of hearing, are they thinking in a different language and interpretation it in their minds while you are speaking? Or are they just not listening to what you are relaying to them? That can be your Art to others as well. So I find I can not feel bad, or sad, or mad when people don’t grasp the richness of my language in the painting or drawing that I have created for their eye’s pleasure, I must realize they may not understand my expression.
Oil Painting
It’s been a while since I have used oil for a painting. I love the way the paint flows and how it blends. After taking water colors and watercolor paper everywhere especially out doors to capture a moment, I found it easy and convenient, but today I took a canvas outside and started blending my oils together, and applying it to the canvas and it was just so smooth and easy flowing. It started to take me on my journey to create a beautiful painting of love and acceptance. I had experienced walking on a board walk with my young hot daddy and as I started to paint that feeling I remembered it just captivated me, and the oils moved me with the richness of colors they create. I have not completed this piece yet but when I finish it I hope the feelings of love, warmth and acceptance I felt that day on the boardwalk will be something you feel when you see the finished work on my blog.
Being Out there
It’s always good to expose your talent to the rest of the world. It can be brutal and blissful. But if your not out there in social media or public displays or even festival events you will never know how the public interrupts your creativity. When you are trying to make either a personal statement with your work or a general appeal, it is always good to understand your audience. Without the feed back you might never grow, you might never comprehend what impact you might have with your work, and you may even get better, more personable, and have a book written about you and your work.
Moon Light
Do you notice that there are times when you just love painting with a dominate color. I love color but I find that I painted with every shade of blue or I would add blue to almost every painting whether it needed it or not. I remember a very good artist told me got to put a splash of color that is contrary to the painting just for interest. Well right now I’m into gold leafing. That is a challenge on it’s own, let alone know where to place it for the best effect.
The Moon Light

I’m Out There
I think one of the hardest things to do is put yourself out there for others to evaluate. I have a few pieces on display at
Patch Coffee House 29100 Portola Parkway, Lake Forest, CA 92630.
Come take a look. Give me some feed back.
Getting Ready
I am having a showing at a coffee house this month. It is hard to get started as an artist. You really put yourself out there for people to evaluate your work and of course it effects you value. Right now I am a bit nervous but I love my art, it’s a little different. But there is a lot of work to do before you show, and you really have to push yourself to get things done. It’s so left brain orientation, and I am so right brain, lets just have fun painting.
Frames and Framing
I’m having a showing of art pieces and I realize after I committed to show that I need to put my paintings in frames. First of all they look professional and cleaner, and give a more finished look product. I was putting them in mat-board and protecting them with sleeves. It was OK but not very complimentary. Now trying to use Frames, that is an issues. You need the right color frame for the painting and the frame has to compliment the picture. To dark makes everything look dark, to light same problem, wrong color can turn people off or draw them into the work ” What to chose? that is the question.”
